#26 in our current events pamphlet series:

IRAQ'S CIVIL RESISTANCE SPEAKS

Interviews with the Secular Left Opposition

Interviews with:

Yanar Mohammed of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq Khayal

Ibrahim of the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq

Issam Shukri of the Union of Unemployed in Iraq

Samir Noory of the Worker Communist Party of Iraq

by Bill Weinberg

Journalist Bill Weinberg writes in the introduction:

"Forging ties of solidarity with the Iraqi resistance is the foremost responsibility of the American anti-war movement. This immediately raises the issue of which 'resistance' do we support? The near-daily headlines of suicide bombs blowing up civilians send a message that the US troop presence is the only thing standing between Iraq and a descent into full-scale civil war. Is there another reality?

Eclipsed from the headlines by the ongoing carnage, there is an active civil resistance in Iraq that opposes the occupation, the torture regime it protects, and the jihadi and Ba'athist 'resistance' alike. This besieged opposition--under threat of repression and assassination--is fighting to keep alive elementary freedoms for women, leading labor struggles against Halliburton and other US contractors, opposing the stealth privatization of the country's oil and resources, and demanding a secular future for Iraq. They note that what they call 'political Islam' dominates both sides in the Iraq war--the collaborationist regime and the armed 'resistance.' Both seek to impose a reactionary quasi-theocratic order."

This pamphlet gives voice to members of this resistance that are totally ignored in the mainstream press, and largely ignored in the alternative press as well.

Available for $3.00 plus $1.00 shipping and handling.
